It was wonderful to see so many members and allies of our LGTBQ+ trademark community during the recent 2024 INTA Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia! Thanks to all of you, we were able to host our best GLINTA event ever. We are so delighted that over 300 guests joined us for this festive celebration!
Our fantastic DJ, Dan Slater, kept us entertained and energized with upbeat music all evening as our guests caught up over custom GLINTA cocktails. We were so honored that INTA’s CEO, Etienne Sanz de Acedo, and current President of the INTA Board of Directors, Dana Brown Northcott of Amazon, took the time to provide thoughtful remarks in support of our community and its critical presence in the fabric of the larger trademark industry.
We were also able to hear about INTA’s new DEI Council from its Co-Chair Marion Heathcote - who gave a strong welcome to the GLINTA community and let us know that she has been a supporter since the founding of GLINTA. In fact, Marion reminded us that Trevor Stevens, a now-retired partner at her law firm, founded GLINTA over 25 years ago. GLINTA has made incredible strides over the past 25 years - evolving from a small social gathering for just members of the LGBTQ+ community, to one of the largest and most sought after events hosted around the INTA Annual Meeting each year. It now includes beyond the LGBTQ+ community, allies from across the INTA community who gather each year to show their support and embrace of our community, aiming to ensure that members of the LGBTQ+ community know they are valued and have a prominent place in the global trademark profession.
In addition, we so appreciate that Linda Chanow, COO of our 2024 GLINTA Honoree, the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession (IILP), traveled to Atlanta to share IILP’s essential and impactful mission to provide study of and advocacy for diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession, including the LGBTQ+ community. What makes IILP so special is that it is dedicated to advancing diversity in the legal profession for all facets of the diverse community - so it provides an opportunity to learn how to be a better ally to all of the groups that make up the diverse community. I encourage all who attended, whether in-house, in private practice, or in other legal industry roles, to look into how they can engage with IILP and support its excellent mission that is aligned with the values held by most INTA member organizations.
